Why non-profit/ministry boards are investing in Life Coaching

You’ve probably heard the term, “compassion fatigue”. You may have even felt this way before, especially if you’ve ever worked for/in a non-profit or ministry. It’s the feeling you get when you’ve been putting your all into the cause(s)/people you so deeply care about, while attempting to manage all the rest of life’s challenges. Sometimes it can feel overwhelming to care so much. And to top it off, no matter what you do, some days the dial doesn’t seem to move very far. It can be defeating, not to mention the impact on one’s personal/home life.
Meanwhile, can you imagine a world without non-profit leaders that are willing and able to shoulder the weight of this responsibility? Personally, I don’t even want to imagine how ugly a world like that would be.
Most Executive Directors are worth their weight (x 1000) in compensation but more often than not, aren’t paid as such. What’s more, the reason they signed up for this work isn’t for the paycheck, it’s for the cause/calling. It begs the question, “Are we doing all we can to take care of our non-profit leaders?”. My client’s board is doing just that… They’re investing in their Director because they saw a need to help him with life balance.
Sadly, many EDs burn out before this is recognized and the cost is oftentimes their well-being –let alone the risk to the organization’s mission and the people it serves. Having been a less than uber-successful non-profit executive myself, and a person who cares deeply about the causes I support, I can empathize with this struggle. It’s exhaustingly hard work!
That’s why I offer a non-profit rate for my Life Coaching services. But this is NOT an ad for your board to hire me. It’s more of a pleading to boards everywhere to consider the gift of Life Coaching for your Directors. It has truly been a transformational journey for my client—all thanks be to God!
Could your non-profit leader use this type of support to continue doing the amazing work they’ve been called to do? If so, please consider Life Coaching for him/her.
